Von Baer builds both briefcases from Cuoio Superiore full-grain Italian leather in family-owned studios in Northern Italy.

• Cuoio Superiore full-grain leather that holds its condition: we select A-grade hides from Bos Taurus cattle, cut from the bend of the hide where the fibers are densest, and drum-dyed so the color runs through the full thickness rather than sitting on the surface. Every briefcase in this range carries Cuoio Superiore certification, with each leather batch laboratory-tested and the tannery audited at least every three years. Full-grain leather resists the cracking and peeling that lower-grade corrected hides show with age.
• High-grade cotton canvas lining that protects what's inside: we chose cotton because the natural weave breathes, holds its shape for the life of the bag, and lets you clean a spill before it reaches the leather. A suede-lined interior soaks that spill permanently.
• Signature hardware finished in a classic warm tone: every piece passes four separate checks by four different teams before it reaches a finished bag. Representative samples are tested for salt-spray corrosion, heat and humidity ageing, and mechanical durability under repeated cycling, so the hardware resists corrosion and holds its warm-tone finish for years.
• Airline-compliant at around 2 kg each: the No.1 weighs 2.1 kg (4.7 lb), the 10X 2.0 kg (4.4 lb). Both stay within most airlines' personal-item limits.
• Blind-embossed personalization at no extra charge: up to four uppercase initials, hand-pressed onto the matching leather luggage tag included with every briefcase.
• 5-year warranty: we cover defects in materials or workmanship under normal use. If a bag was built wrong somewhere, that flaw typically shows itself within the first year or two. We cover five years.

This range covers two briefcases: a structured lockable briefcase and a convertible with an expanding shell.

• Carrying confidential documents that must lock when you step away: our No.1 Leather Briefcase has a key-lock closure that keeps the contracts shut when you step away from the table. The triple-gusset interior separates A4 documents from your laptop, so you reach the right compartment without pulling everything out. Available in Solid Brown, Classic Tan and Elegant Black. 40.5 x 29 x 10–12 cm (15.9 x 11.4 x 3.9–4.7 in), 2.1 kg (4.7 lb).
• Switching carry modes through a mixed commute: the 10X Leather Laptop Travel Bag converts between backpack, messenger and travel-bag carry. Clip the straps on for the ride, unclip them in the lobby, and grab the side handle through the door. Available in Solid Brown, Classic Tan, Elegant Black and Deep Red. 32 x 44 x 15–20 cm (12.6 x 17.3 x 5.9–7.9 in), 2.0 kg (4.4 lb).
• Structured presence in the boardroom: we built the No.1 with a wide, structured body that holds its shape upright on the conference table. At 40.5 cm (15.9 in) wide, it's the larger of the two, its hardware finished in a classic warm tone.
• One- or two-night business trip added late: when the overnight gets confirmed and a shirt and wash kit have to fit in the bag you already packed, the 10X expands from about 21 liters to 28. Four detachable padded organizers let you reconfigure the interior for clothes or kit. Still carry-on compliant, so you keep it overhead.
• Personal-item flying with your laptop and a day's kit: the 10X meets most airline personal-item requirements, so you slide it under the seat without a gate-check conversation. The front-loading design lets you pull your laptop out fast at security, and a zipped pocket holds your boarding pass and travel documents.

FAQs

Do both of these briefcases actually expand, or only the 10X?

Only the 10X truly expands. Its depth expands from 15 cm (5.9 in) to 20 cm (7.9 in), and its capacity from approximately 21 liters to 28. The No.1 works differently: its triple-gusset design holds more or less without changing shape, keeping to a depth of 10 to 12 cm (3.9 to 4.7 in) rather than expanding on a zip.

Are these carry-on or personal-item friendly for flights?

Both briefcases are designed to meet most airline personal-item requirements, and the 10X is additionally carry-on compliant. We recommend checking your specific carrier's size limits, as requirements vary between airlines.
