That doesn't make the handles thin. We make them from multiple layered plies of the same leather, with supporting material underneath.

Check how the leather is dyed, too. Drum-dyed leather is tumbled in dye, so the color runs all the way through it: if it's ever scuffed, the leather underneath is the same shade, not the pale mark surface-dyed leather shows.
