Benefits
Unmatched Durability and Elegance
Despite the softness of the material, the thick full grain leather retains the durability for which the material is famous.
It will last for many years, or even decades of regular use, without losing the reliability and superior function it had when you bought it. It will be as elegant in year twenty as it was on day one.
Comfort Meets Functionality
The functionality of the wallet is ensured by the quality of the materials and craftsmanship. It will keep your cards and cash safe inside when not in use, but easily accessible for when you need them.
Alongside that, however, is the smile-evoking feel of the soft, elegant leather as you take it out to use it and return it to its usual spot. Even while stowed in your pocket, the soft wallet fits the contours of your body, disappearing into the comfort of your outfit until needed.
A Sustainable Choice
As a byproduct of the food industry, and if handled responsibly by a quality manufacturer, leather is a sustainable and eco-friendly choice for the ethical consumer.
Vegetable tanning not only produces the highest quality leather available, it is also the most environmentally friendly method.
Other methods, such as chrome tanning, are more damaging, and produce an inferior-wearing leather, but are often used because they are quicker and therefore cheaper. Go for quality, and you can get the sustainability as well.
Enhancing Your Professional Image
A premium wallet sends a subtle but powerful message to those who handle it and see it. It helps that the situations in which your wallet comes out are financial ones too. Think of this, you are having a business lunch with your boss, who is considering you for a promotion – but competition is neck and neck.
You pull out your wallet to foot the bill, but your boss reaches out to stop you, letting you know that it’s on the company. You smile, give your thanks, and put your wallet away. In that little interaction though, your wallet was seen.
The quality noted. Your attention to detail, appreciation of quality, and your fine style are all taken in. The effect may be subtle, but it can also be powerful.
An Investment in Timelessness
Choosing a classic style that remains relevant through generations of fashion evolution ensures that your investment will last.
The money you spend will be spread over a longer time period, giving you the best value for your dollar, returning your investment by reducing the cost per use of your wallet.
How to Choose
Choosing your new wallet is a simple process of knowing what is important in wallet construction and function, knowing what your own needs are in a wallet, and then choosing the style you most love.
Understand the Material's Essence
As human beings, we have a deep connection with leather. We’ve been using it for thousands of years, wearing it, creating accessories, tools, and even jewelry and homes with it.
Because of this, we get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from handling it.
Full grain leather gives the best effect, as the grain is intact and it develops a patina over time, getting even richer and more beautiful with use and age.
Craftsmanship and Durability
In order to get the best from premium materials, we need the help of skilled craftspeople. The better the craftsperson, the better the final product will be.
Look for tight, regular stitching, clean, straight cuts, and no dangling threads or glue showing. The final product should look finished from every angle.
Aesthetic and Personal Style
Consider your own style and choose a wallet that complements and elevates your look. It should go with your casual clothing, adding elegance and sophistication to it. It should also be at home complementing your more formal looks.

Von Baer was founded because I wanted a unique and high-quality laptop bag for myself, without paying for an unreasonably overpriced designer brand. I've spent over 500 hours testing 1,000s of leather products over to help you get a better product.
I'm proud of the luxurious leather goods we've created since 2014, and I'm sure you'll love them too. Read more about our story here.
We strive for the highest editorial standards, and to only publish accurate information on our website.
How Is Von Baer Leather Different?
Not all leather is the same.
Since 2015, we at Von Baer have dedicated ourselves to high-quality real leather.
Here's a 30-second summary of how to choose a better leather product:
- Leather comes in different grades: full-grain, top-grain, and split/bonded - which represent how much of the original product is used (less product used = cheaper).
- Full-grain is the best grade of leather you can buy: exceptionally durable, developing an elegant patina, and having that beautiful real leather smell.
- Cheaper grades are less durable, age poorly, and don't have that authentic scent.
- Leather is processed through "tanning", which makes it durable and water-resistant.
- The two main methods for this are "vegetable-tanning" and "chrome-tanning".
- Chrome tanning uses harsh chemicals that are bad for the environment and produce a worse quality leather.
- Vegetable tanning is the best method, being more eco-friendly, and producing leather with a better patina and scent.
That's why here at Von Baer, we only use full-grain vegetable-tanned Italian leather, sourced from the finest tanneries across Tuscany, Italy.
It ages beautifully over time, developing a unique patina, making it more durable and luxurious than lower-quality leather.
It's also why we developed the leather standards trademark Cuoio Superiore (meaning "superior leather" in Italian).
