How to Choose
Several things should be considered to ensure that you get the best purse for your style and needs.
Leather Quality: The Heart of Your Purse
Full-grain leather is the most durable, and a light, natural finish lets the unique grain of each bag show and keep its refined look for years.
Top-grain leather is a little less durable, but is still a popular choice, as it offers a smooth finish and is priced a little lower.
Design and Practicality: Form Meets Function
Consider how you will use the purse and what you normally carry inside it, and consider this alongside each purse’s design.
Are the pockets the right size and arrangement? Would you better have one large, open compartment or one divided for specific purposes? What size best suits your needs?
Color and Style: A Reflection of You
Not all browns are the same. Darker hues are classic and sophisticated, while lighter tones best suit a more casual environment.
Depending on the design, each point along the spectrum of browns can be made to look formal or casual – so you should be able to find your favorite hue in a style that matches your needs.
How Is Von Baer Leather Different?

Since 2015, we at Von Baer have dedicated ourselves to high-quality real leather.
Here's a 30-second summary of how to choose a better leather product:
- Leather comes in different grades: full-grain, top-grain, and split/bonded - which represent how much of the original hide is used (less hide used = cheaper).
- Full-grain is the best grade of leather you can buy: exceptionally durable, with the natural grain of the hide preserved in full, and that beautiful real leather smell.
- Cheaper grades are less durable, age poorly, and don't have that authentic scent.
That's why here at Von Baer, we use A-grade full-grain leather - the top selection grade, chosen for tight, fine, consistent grain.
It's also why we developed the leather standards trademark Cuoio Superiore (meaning "superior leather" in Italian).
