When the wave of Covid hit the world and so many of us shifted from a regular trek between home and work each day, and regular holidays, to an existence restricted to home, the need for luggage dropped to almost nothing.

Sure, we should still mask up when in close quarters, and take precautions against catching a nasty illness, but at last we can strike out into new territories again, explore distant lands, get away to secluded paradises, or even hide away from a weekend of renewal a few hours from home.
Restless citizens have revived festivals, clubs, performances and all manner of reasons to get out there and travel again.
With a renewed appreciation for the freedom to travel, many want to treat themselves to the best kit they can afford, to make the experience as positive as possible again.
How to Buy Luggage
Before you go, consider what it is you want out of your luggage. There are advantages and disadvantages to many features.
Soft-sided luggage can form to contents more easily, perhaps allowing for that little bit extra to fit in when heading back home.
Hard shell cases may be less pliable, and probably have fewer internal pockets, but they might hold up better to the bumps and bangs of travel – and they do look a little more sophisticated than their softer cousins and are easier to clean.

So, without further introduction, let’s get into the nitty gritty of what to go for, and what to avoid, when you are doing your luggage shopping this year!
Hard Side vs Soft Side Luggage
If you travel with any kind of fragile contents (this can include tubes of creams and that kind of thing, as well as electronics, makeup, photographs, etc.), you will probably benefit from a hard-shell case. Within the hard shell, you can protect your breakable items with clothing or other padding to keep it safe, and not have to worry about it being hit by the corner or wheel of someone else’s bag.
Soft-shell cases, however, do have the advantage that they can be squished into smaller spaces, and can accommodate items that don’t quite fit the unstretched dimensions of the bag.
Soft-shell bags do tend to have a more casual look than hard-shell though, so for optimal sophistication or glamor, the hard case comes out on top.
Luggage Tags
Some people worry that, if they put their name and address on their baggage, people might be able to steal their personal information. There might be a very small risk of this, but in truth, there is a much higher risk of you losing track of your bag, or of someone grabbing it by mistake, and then the only thing keeping you from frustration, a lot of hassle, and perhaps some worry, is that little name and address tag.
Many bags have a small purpose-made pocket for this information, and so no one can casually look at the information anyway – it is only when the bag is found that the little card is pulled out and can be read.
