Von Baer men's work backpacks combine Cuoio Superiore certified Italian leather with solid brass hardware from Italian workshops, using vegetable-tanning techniques continuous in Tuscany since 1961. Across the range, our backpacks weigh between 1.4 kg (3.09 lbs) for the slim daily commuter and 2 kg (4.4 lbs) for the convertible travel format. Every model fits a 14-inch to 16-inch laptop and meets most airline personal item requirements.

• Cuoio Superiore Certified Leather: Every backpack in this range carries Cuoio Superiore certification - an external Italian standard that requires laboratory testing of each leather batch plus on-site audits of the tannery at least every three years by an independent institute. Our leather is tanned over 48 to 72 hours using natural plant-based tannins (quebracho, mimosa and chestnut) where industry-standard chrome tanning rushes the hide in 8 hours or even 2 hours on quick methods. We chose third-party certification because self-declared leather grades carry no enforceable standard, just a brand promise.
• Solid Brass Hardware Throughout: Our zippers, buckles and rivets are solid brass crafted in Italian workshops, not the plated zinc alloy that tarnishes years before the leather softens. Brass is our answer to the most common backpack failure point: hardware. Our brass holds its finish across the years it takes the leather to develop a patina, where plated zinc fails at the joints first.
• Italian Cotton Canvas Lining: Every backpack is lined in robust Italian cotton canvas - a natural alternative to the polyester and microfiber linings used at lower prices. Our cotton breathes, which means moisture doesn't build up against your laptop on a warm commute. Cotton canvas was our choice over synthetics because cotton breathes where synthetic linings don't.

• Free Hand-Applied Personalization: Each leather luggage tag takes up to four uppercase initials at no extra charge. Our personalization is hand-applied with heated brass type - blind embossing, no ink, no thread. We split the interior into two zipped front pockets, two internal pockets and three pen slots, organizing what you carry between train, office and meeting room. Each Liberty ships with adjustable leather shoulder straps and a stitched top handle, so you can wear it on the platform and grab the handle on the walk to the desk. 33 cm W x 12 cm D x 40 cm H (13 in x 4.72 in x 15.75 in).
