Buying Guide
What should I look for in a toiletry bag?
Pockets
If you are in the process of looking for the right toiletry bag for your needs, it’s very important to think about organization. It’s a very wise move to look at how your existing purse or backpack is organized before you go ahead and make a purchase.
Do you just throw everything into your bag without much consideration, or does everything have a specific pocket or compartment?
If you tend to prioritize organization, it’s best to look for something that comes with a number of pockets and compartments.
Capacity and items
Are you the kind of person that’s passionate about toiletries? If so, think carefully about size. The deeper the interior and the more compartments a bag has, the better it will be when it comes to saving space.
TSA requirements
Do you plan to take your bag on a flight with you? If so, ensure your items meet TSA requirements. You will need a quart-sized bag of containers that hold liquids in quantities of no more than 3.4 ounces. If you don’t want to place your products inside a plastic bag, you can put them in a reusable zippered bag.
Portability
If a bag is portable, this takes the fuss and strain out of travelling even when you’re embarking on a long trip. Handles will make it easy for you to transport your toiletries to and from the bathroom, and a hook should make it easier for you to access your essentials in the morning.
If a bag is too big and non-collapsible, this could limit the space that’s available for your other essentials. However, if a bag is too lightweight and small, you may need to purchase a second one.
FAQ's
How do you clean toiletry bags?
Most toiletry bags are fairly easy to clean. All you normally need to do is wipe the interior down.
This is very likely to be the case if the bag in question is made from nylon and water-resistant material. If you have a bag that’s made from faux leather, genuine leather, or polyester, you should be able to spot clean it.
Do carry-on toiletry bags need to be clear?
If you want to fly and take liquids on the plane with you, you will need to follow the TSA requirements. These enable you to carry one quart-sized bag of contains up to 3.4 ounces each.
You are not obliged to have a clear toiletry bag, but this could speed things up if your bag is pulled up for more inspection.
What should be in my toiletry bag?
These bags are designed to carry cleaning and grooming essentials like a toothbrush, deodorant, sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. If you have an ample amount of space, you may also be able to carry a comb, nail clippers, cologne or perfume and nail clippers in your toiletry bag too.

Von Baer was founded because I wanted a unique and high-quality laptop bag for myself, without paying for an unreasonably overpriced designer brand. I've spent over 500 hours testing 1,000s of leather products over to help you get a better product.
I'm proud of the luxurious leather goods we've created since 2014, and I'm sure you'll love them too. Read more about our story here.
We strive for the highest editorial standards, and to only publish accurate information on our website.
How Is Von Baer Leather Different?
Not all leather is the same.
Since 2015, we at Von Baer have dedicated ourselves to high-quality real leather.
Here's a 30-second summary of how to choose a better leather product:
- Leather comes in different grades: full-grain, top-grain, and split/bonded - which represent how much of the original product is used (less product used = cheaper).
- Full-grain is the best grade of leather you can buy: exceptionally durable, developing an elegant patina, and having that beautiful real leather smell.
- Cheaper grades are less durable, age poorly, and don't have that authentic scent.
- Leather is processed through "tanning", which makes it durable and water-resistant.
- The two main methods for this are "vegetable-tanning" and "chrome-tanning".
- Chrome tanning uses harsh chemicals that are bad for the environment and produce a worse quality leather.
- Vegetable tanning is the best method, being more eco-friendly, and producing leather with a better patina and scent.
That's why here at Von Baer, we only use full-grain vegetable-tanned Italian leather, sourced from the finest tanneries across Tuscany, Italy.
It ages beautifully over time, developing a unique patina, making it more durable and luxurious than lower-quality leather.
It's also why we developed the leather standards trademark Cuoio Superiore (meaning "superior leather" in Italian).
